Dalby darling Margot Robbie rides high on successes
Megan Masters   January 26, 2018   Home Press Archive

Article from The Chronicle

Former Dalby girl Margot Robbie is riding high on recent successes including her first Oscar nomination.

Robbie, who was raised on a farm near Dalby before moving to the Gold Coast, has become one of Hollywood’s newest darlings after a slew of roles in prominent films like Wolf of Wall Street and her latest big one, I, Tonya.

She is set to be Australia’s leading hope when the Oscars come around on March 4 in America (Monday, March 5 in Australia).

Robbie will go up against Meryl Streep (The Post), Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri), Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) and Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird) for the best actress statue.

The role has already earned her AACTA and Critics’ Choice awards.

I, Tonya premiered in Sydney this week.

Robbie regularly mentions her love of spending time growing up on her grandparents’ farm in Dalby.

In a past interview with the Dalby Herald she said some of her favourite memories come from her time on the Darling Downs farm.

“I grew up on the Gold Coast but all of my family is from Dalby. My favourite memories growing up are thanks to my time here,” she told the Dalby Herald.

In a later interview she said it’s the place she thinks of when people asked her were home was.

“My grandparents’ place out at Dalby has been the one house I’ve always had throughout my entire childhood, so when someone asks me of home, that’s where I think of,” she said.
