Margot Robbie on Changing Her Perception of Sexual Misconduct
Zoe Anastasiou   February 22, 2018   Home Press Archive

Article from Harper’s Bazaar

“I’ve definitely gone back through my
memories and now I’m reassessing things.”

Within the last few months there has been an undeniable shift throughout Hollywood and the rest of the entertainment industry. Light is being shed on the culture of misconduct and people who abused their positions of power are finally being held accountable for their actions.

In a recent interview with Stylist, current BAZAAR cover girl Margot Robbie explained how these revelations have changed the way in which she perceives harassment, leading her to reassess some circumstances in her own life.

“When all of these assault allegations started coming forward, I remember hearing half of them and thinking, ‘I didn’t know that was classified as assault or sexual harassment,'” Robbie explained. “I just chalked it up to
a sleazy guy being sleazy.”

She continued, “That goes to show that when a problem can be so prevalent in society, we just accept it as a way of life. I’ve definitely gone back through my memories and now I’m reassessing things with the view of, ‘OK, that’s not acceptable behaviour, and why did I accept it at the time?'”

Robbie also discussed I, Tonya and outlined how she believes the creation of this film helped the real Tonya Harding heal. “I do get the impression that she’s found some sort of closure. I flew to Oregon and met her just before we shot the film, and when we spoke about everything, [it was obvious
that] she hadn’t let it go yet,” Robbie said. “Now that her name
is being said in a more positive conversation, I think she’s found a way to close the chapter, to some extent.”
