Article from Harper’s Bazaar

As Beatrix Potter’s classic fairy tale burrows onto the big screen, Margot Robbie hops into character.

I grew up reading Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit books, so I was thrilled to be cast in the screen adaptation. As a child I used to host little tea parties with a hand-painted china set featuring Peter and his sisters, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail. Peter is such a great antihero. He’s rebellious and impulsive, always doing what he shouldn’t.

As a kid I was just like him. If a wall had a don’t touch, wet paint sign, I’d be the first to poke it. In the film I play Flopsy, one of Peter’s well behaved sisters. To get into character, I watched a lot of videos about rabbits so I could study how their faces move.

In between takes, I’d twitch my nose to remind myself I was a rabbit. Flopsy has a lisp, which makes her painfully self-conscious and kind of indignant at the same time. As I was preparing for the role, I went through a lot of English personalities before I settled on Sharon Osbourne. I love her voice—it’s brilliant!

Throughout the movie Flopsy wears a pinky-red cardigan, but she looks amazing in the Dolce & Gabbana vegetable-print gown she wore for this shoot.

I think Peter, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail should be the next big thing in fashion. I’d love to see them on the runway! And I will definitely be implementing bunny-inspired fashion into my own wardrobe. After all, who can resist a carrot.
